Paula’s Talk

Title: Indicator Translation Tool: An Internship Experience with the EPA Vic

Abstract: This presentation outlines the experiential learning and contributions from an internship with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria. The central theme of this talk is the development of the ‘Indicator Translation Tool’ using R Shiny. This tool facilitates the simultaneous visualisation of potential health risks from pollution and integrates sociodemographic, environmental, and health indicators of communities that such hazards may impact. The talk will detail the developmental phases of the tool and an overview of its functionality and application. Developing the ‘Indicator Translation Tool’ has not only contributed a tool for EPA but has also underscored the value of internships in fostering real-world problem-solving skills and technical expertise.
