The fortnightly BRAG meeting will be held tomorrow 8th November 2018 at 1pm in room Y801. This week we will have presentations by Em and Jacinta.
Title: Coral and CoDa
Abstract: I will outline the current work being done to record and analyse coral reefs through the CatlinXL Seaview Survey and Virtual Reef Diver projects before introducing my area of interest in compositional data. This will be a basic introductory talk outlining the motivations behind using a compositional data approach, its application in modelling reef systems, and some discussion of limitations of current approaches and future directions.
This talk will form the basis for a presentation at the “Young Bayesians and Big Data for Social Good” workshop
Title: Basis functions and machine learning
Abstract: A brief introduction to the concept of basis functions and an example commonly used in machine learning.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
