When: Thursday 2nd August 2018, 13:00-14:00.
Included in meeting:
The fortnightly BRAG meeting will be held tomorrow, August 2, 2018, Thursday at 1 pm in Y801. This week we will have a different type of session (informal) with presentations from Daniel and Jessie.
“Title: Maths without numbers
The importance of mathematical and statistical literacy has been recognised by professionals and government around the world, yet many people have a very poor understanding of what mathematics and statistics actually is, and how to think mathematically and statistically in order to solve a problem. With this in mind, we have been developing activities for school students focused on teaching concepts to which non-statisticians and non-mathematicians are rarely exposed. In this session we will present and run through three activities, “Count the Crowd”, “Maths without Numbers”, and “Hexaflexagons”, which we have developed over the last couple of months. We’d like the session to be informal, so feel free to bring your lunch, and we are very much interested in new ideas for activities going forward.”
We look forward to seeing you all there!
