When: Thursday 24th May 2018, 13:00-14:00.
Included in meeting:
The fortnightly BRAG meeting will be held tomorrow, 24/5/2018, Thursday at 1.00 pm in Y801. This week we will have talks from Farzana and Jacinta.
Title: Modelling Cancer Incidence using Bayesian Semi parametric Hierarchical Empirical Likelihood Spatial Models
Abstract : I will talk about a model proposed in 2015 using Bayesian Empirical Likelihood in the field of spatial data analysis with application to cancer incidence data. I will try to show the model formulation and results of a case study involving incidence of liver cancer data (simulated) in Queensland and compare the model output with those of other existing parametric models.
Title: Big Data wrangling: from satellite image to data frame and headaches in between
Abstract: In this talk I’ll describe the process I used to extract data from an atmospherically corrected (“analysis ready”) Landsat satellite image to a statistical analysis friendly data frame format. Sounds simple. The first time around it was not, so I’m sharing a few things I learned along the way. Some of this content will be taught as hands on practicals to participants from 12 countries at the UN Earth Observation for Official Statistics workshop Kerrie and I are running with international collaborators in Bangkok in June.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
