Included in meeting:
The final fortnightly BRAG meeting of 2017 will be held on this Thursday 7th December at 1 pm in the room Y801, GP.
This time, we will have two presentations by Farzana and Jacinta.
Details on their presentations are:
Farzana’s talk: “Title: A short Introduction to Bayesian Empirical Likelihood
Bayesian Empirical Likelihood (BEL) is a semi-parametric inference procedure where parametric prior is multiplied with non-parametric empirical likelihood to yield the posterior. In this talk, I am going to provide a short introduction to Bayesian empirical likelihood (BEL) using some examples. Also I will provide a brief review of works done so far using BEL along with my future work plans.”
Jacinta’s talk: “Title: Analysis of satellite imagery data: exploring a Bayesian spin on machine learning
In this session I will give background on my pre ACEMS work about statistical analysis of satellite imagery which led to my current research and give a brief overview of my current project. I will also discuss an aspect of my research: exploring Bayesian additive regression trees (BARTs) for analysing satellite imagery data. I’m interested in getting input on this method from the group.”
In this meeting, we will be discussing ideas for the end-of-year party which will be on the 19th December in Y8. So please come along with suggestions for the party. So far, we’ve had suggestions of board games, trivia, and Earl has suggested setting up a competition with the Code-a-Bot at the Cube (http://www.thecube.qut.edu.au/cube-screens/2017/code-a-bot.php).
We look forward to seeing you all there!
Shovanur and Matt
