When: Thursday 8th June 2017, 13:00-14:00.
Included in meeting:
This fortnight (8th June) we have Alan presenting at our meeting. A detail on his presentation is included below.
“Title: Using R as a GIS: how to deal with spatial data types
Spatial statistics represents a significant focus for new research and applications in statistics. However, workers in spatial statistics, particularly researchers starting out in the field, often get caught up in handling spatial data and coercing it into the format required for modelling or for visualisuation. The leg-work associated with processing the data can turn out to be as difficult and time-consuming as the mental heavy-lifting required to model it. Fortunately, the R statistical software has functionality for creating, loading and manipulating spatial data such as shapefiles and rasters. This presentation introduces the GIS concepts behind spatial data and how to deal with those data in R.”
We will also be discussing what people would like to see in future meetings. So, please come with ideas of what you would like to see (or present) in future meetings.
We look forward to seeing you there!
