The next topic in the series of BRAG meetings is Bayesian statistics and Big Data.
The first meeting will be on 12 September 2013 at 11am in P504.
We will be watching a TEDx talk by Simon Jackman on Big Data and what he calls the Data Revolution. It’s fairly light on statistical methodology but does do a good job explaining how we’re at a very exciting moment in human history.
The outlook invite for this meeting (send by Sam) contained a book, Frontiers in Massive Data Analysis, which contains a lot of nice little essays on the challenges we face and the tools we have and need in the analysis of big data. These should provide some brain fodder on what you might want to give your presentation on.
A schedule for talks will be posted here once it has been sorted out.
